The CABI Origin M is a movable chicken coop dedicated to laying hen rearing, with the aim of reducing the time spent while increasing the farmer’s comfort and respecting animal welfare. The coop also improves pasture conditions so that the birds can be moved around regularly. This dynamic grazing system has several advantages, including better soil regeneration, preventing disease and a ready supply of fresh plants.

The structure is robust and easy to move, thanks to its reinforced chassis and large wheels. Like the CABI MOOV, this henhouse is mobile. It can be set up on any type of land, providing an ideal environment for hens and other poultry. With a capacity of up to 800 hens, depending on its size, CABI’s self-contained professional mobile hen house is the ideal solution for breeders who want to offer their animals optimum rearing conditions, while benefiting from a high degree of flexibility.

How much income can a mobile poultry house generate?

Having a mobile poultry house is a way of diversifying your farm’s activity and making your income is more resilient to market fluctuations. It allows you to make the most of farmland that isn’t always suitable for growing crops and isn’t always accessible. Working time is put to good use. It is estimated that setting up a farm with 250 free-range laying hens generates roughly and working time of 1 to 1.5 hours a day, or 7 to 10 hours a week on average.

What are dynamic rotational grazing practices?

The ease with which mobile hen houses can be moved around and their compactness means that they can be used for rotational grazing and increase the added value for a given area of farmland. A professional mobile poultry house can be integrated into orchards, in rotation with market gardening or alongside cattle or sheep pastures.

This practice of integrating poultry into crops is not new. It was used by settlers in the United States in tobacco fields, where the turkeys ate the yellow and grey worms that were so destructive to the plant, or by geese (Cotton Patch breed) to weed cotton or asparagus fields.

Firstly, the quality of the eggs. The vitamin D content of eggs is higher than eggs from hens that have little or no access to open-air runs. This has been demonstrated by researchers at the University of Reading. They found that hens with access to regular outdoor runs produced yolks containing significantly more “sunshine vitamin”.

The hens with the most freedom are the ones that produce eggs with high levels of a specific vitamin D form (25-hydroxy D3). This particular vitamin is particularly good for human health.

The other argument is that the rearing conditions are the best possible in terms of both animal welfare and respect for the environment.
